Mock/Dash, 2013
Mock/Dash is a work conceived during the same research trip to West Ealing that inspired 'West; An Investigation of Global Concern'.
West Ealing has a high number of mock tudor facades, many of which have pebbledash rears. These two decorative techniques are both considered dated and ugly yet illicit strong nostalgic feelings for most when brought up in conversation. There is something disgustingly appealing about each of them and for no other reason than to indulge my feelings towards them I have wanted to make the wall shown in the above mock-up. When I was invited back to the Farringdon Factory I decided it was time to realise this project and I created a variation on the theme. |
