View From the First Floor

Picture
View from the first floor is a video intervention screening out of the five first floor windows of INLAND gallery.

INLAND first curated this exhibition for PAMI with an interest in the dissemination of moving image. The project pitches models for communication against the practical restraints of the gallery space. A contrast is drawn between the ephemeral qualities of moving image in relation to the enduring nature of architecture.

Lucie Pardue (London) and Spencer Mansfield Ashby (New York) appropriated separate works in relation to the specific conditions of INLAND’S first floor windows. Each aperture becomes a screen and presents a monumental action. In Pardue’s work Perpetual Motion, the symmetry of each window enclosed the restless image of a single paraglider, viewed from the busy Camberwell street as a suspended event in time. Ashby’s edit of Cruise Collision isolated moments of performance from a longer film of the same title, the scenes resonating an allure akin to glossy, seductive advertisements.

View From the First Floor initially screening from 7pm – 11pm from the 19th until the 23rd September, 2012.
