Being & Appearing
Geri Halliwell, Look at Me, 1999
For all these characters, their work defines them at least as much as it is defined by them. The actor taught us this: there is no frontier between being and appearing.
Let me repeat. None of all this has any real meaning.
Albert Camus, The Myth of Sisyphus
This is a quote I come back to time and time again and I often describe my practice as an investigation of the gap between being and appearing. A pointless task with no answer but an abundance of material. If this is of interest to you, here is a copy of my MA thesis which goes into the topic in more detail.
